Working with communities

Across South East England, we work with local people to restore rivers, improve habitats, monitor river health and inspire a deeper connection with nature. Together, we're helping rivers thrive again for communities and wildlife.

Communities at the heart of river recovery

We believe rivers are strongest when the communities around them are connected to, involved in and inspired by them.

That’s why we work with people of all ages and backgrounds to improve rivers across the South East. From hands-on volunteering and citizen science to guided walks and community events, we create opportunities for people to learn about, enjoy and take action for their local river.

By working together, we can create healthier rivers, richer wildlife habitats and stronger communities.

Volunteer and take action

There are many ways to get involved in improving rivers across the South East.

Volunteers support practical river restoration projects, habitat improvements and river clean-ups, helping to create healthier spaces for wildlife and people. Others take part in citizen science programmes, collecting valuable data on water quality, river habitats and wildlife that helps us understand and improve river health.

Whether you’re looking to learn new skills, meet like-minded people or make a positive difference for your local environment, there’s a role for everyone.
